Shows potential....... |
The first thing that I want to say is that I bought my Xbox on launch day (pre-ordered) and that it is definitely the best console on the market at the moment. As has been stated many times, the game titles available are very varied and probably the best for any console at launch. Halo is really great, Project Gotham is sooooo addictive (just one more go..) and DOA3 is really good to play with a group of friends. HOWEVER - as with all new consoles, I dont feel that the developers have even begun to push the hardware yet. To be honest, some of the PS2 games give the current crop of Xbox titles a run for their money graphically. Halo suffers from some tremendous slow-down when the screen gets busy on the later levels (fortunately, the game is so good you do forgive this). Another problem (not the fault of the Xbox) is that many of the consoles advanced features such as Broadband, Dolby Digital and High-Definition TV output will not be used by the majority of people for some time as they wont have access to the required hardware i.e. how many people have a dolby digital system or a HDTV? This unfortunately means that most people are ignoring these features and just comparing it to the PS2/GC on a like for like basis. When these facilities are more widespread around the home, then the Xbox will come into its own. The fact that the Xbox doesnt play DVDs out of the box is also a bit of a downer. Being greeted by the insert the DVD playback unit message is really annoying. I feel that Microsoft dropped the ball here, as they should have allowed DVD playback without having to buy an extra remote. The inclusion of an internal hard disk is a real plus point. The many features this gives, such as saving game progress, saving CD tracks, etc. far outweighs the extra console size, weight and noise (which you soon forget about). Overall, the Xbox is a really good console, with what appears to be plenty of industry support and tremendous potential. I am glad that I bought 1 at launch ... When the developers start to get really clever with the hardware, the console wil be in a league of its own!!

What a suprise from the awful Microsoft |

As a subscribed hater of Microsoft I had no intention of buying an XBOX, that was until I saw the release list, wonderful titles from many big names and it was Segas prescence that really persuaded me. I bought one and was instantly discusted with the tacky look of the machine and the controllers but other things began to bring me round to the machine. I bought the console with Halo, Project Gotham racing, DOA 3, Rallisport and Jet set radio future. As I started playing the games I began to realise how damn good this machine is, Halo is absolutely incredible and without a doubt the best FPS I have ever played, JSRF also original and brlliant fun, Rallisport the best stand alone rally game I have played, DOA3 top beat em up with awe inspiring graphics, the only real dissapointment was project gotham which just cant rub shoulders with GT3 on PS2. The controllers also grew on me, although they look really cheap and nasty they are very comfortable and nicely positioned. I actually bought a Japanese control pad as they are much better than the UK ones (smaller, better design). From the front end to the awesome power, Xbox is a brilliant machine and I am really glad to have bought one...

Perfect! |
Thats what it is! I bought mine in March 2001, and since then I havent doubted my purchase once. Purchase of Halo is obligatory!! This game just about makes the console. Others include Project Gotham, Championshiip Manager is life consuming, and DOA3 is brilliant! Not oonly these, but the list of games coming to the Xbox are endless: Project Ego, Halo 2, PG2, Metal Gear Solid 2, ETC. But The hardware for you to fiddle with is the bit: An Intel 733MHz processor An internal hard drive, for massive storage of game information An NVIDIA graphics processing unit Mostly whats on a computer! Its a cd player, dvd player, and obviously a games console. With these all at your diposal, its definetly worth it.
